Reviews: Back to Index

The albums have been graded on the most common grading system used in Finnish schools. Where 4 is the worst, and 10 is the best. The final score for the album is most of the times the average for all of the tracks, though it can also change if the reviewer wishes so. The Super Eurobeat Non-Stop albums will be reviewed as full collections, and the individual songs won't be reviewed, unless they are completely new. Though Euromach and JGTC albums for example will have complete song by song reviews.
The grading system simply goes as ie. 4- (3,75), 4 (4), 4+ (4,25) and 4½ (4,5) and the next one again would be 5-. A simple system we have over here in Finland.
  Maharaja Night Euro Fire 26

1.King & Queen - Up Side Down (A-Beat C)
So The HI-NRG Revolutions were named again to Euro Fire and in my humble opinion the series went for the better right away (not that the name had an effect on it, but perhaps the song selections just became better). King & Queen kick the album off with one of their best songs ever. A really effective happy song that has a killer chorus and awesome vocals by Domino. Also the song gets high points for the awesome backgrounds, that are far above the standard eurobeat song.

2.Mega NRG Man - Rebel Rebel (A-Beat C)
After a killer song as the album opener Mega NRG Man follows at the heels but doesn't really manage to leave an impression. The song has a nice chorus and the vocals are alright, but to make this song more memorable it would've needed much much more.
Rating : 7+

3.Norma Sheffield - Breaking The Law Of Love (A-Beat C)
A beautiful intro kicks off one heck of a pretty song. The piano backgrounds create a really charming athmosphere and the song is one of the most unique Norma Sheffield songs. The song is beautiful and sounds nice for sometime, but after a few times you've listened through it suddenly loses it's charm. Nice song, but not very longlasting.

4.Rose - Hold On (Time)
As I didn't really have high expectations for this song I was rather surprised by it from the moment it began. A rather speedy song for a Rose track and the chorus is catchy in its simplicity. The piano c-melody after the chorus is the most memorable part about the song and you're always left waiting for it.

5.Lisa Johnson - May Day-May Day (Time)
Ah the wonderful Lisa Johnson is back with a great song after a while. Her ever so great Paradise still remains unbeaten but this song reaches a good second place as one of her strongest performances. The song repeates May Day quite a lot and it creates a really great hook that makes the song fun to sing along to, also the chorus is really nice, and the bells at the background sound really cool.
Rating : 9-

6.Lolita - All I Want (A-Beat C)
With a huge name like Lolita you are always expecting much, but you can't succeed everytime can you? But this is not that time. An excellent chorus that relies on Miss Frattini's great voice, and the rather rough and energetic backgrounds really make this song a killer song.

7.Alexis - Hula Hula Hop (Time)
Oh wow, a bubblegum track on a Maharaja Night album... Well pretty close anyways, this song is really happy and it delivers a huge dose of positivity, the chorus is plain moronic but in a way it's also really catchy, you can't resists but hum 'Hula Hula Hop Hula Hula Hop My Baby' in your mind even if you try to resist singing it out loud. A catchy song that at the same time gets on your nerves.

8.Silver Feat. Rose - Take My Heart (Time)
After a strangely perky performance by Time this song takes us back to the more normal style that we're used to. A song that is pretty mediocore though, Rose's vocals give the song a bit of a boost but in the end it's nothing special, and is helplessly one of the worst songs on this album.
Rating : 7-

9.Karen - Crazy (A-Beat C)
This song starts out rather amazingly as the intro is really unlike normal eurobeat, but once the main melody starts playing we're reminded that we're dealing with A-Beat C here. This song succeeds in being a typical track that is OK but nothing special about it (well the intro is a different thing). Karen has done much much better before.
Rating : 7-

10.Go Go Girls - Paradise Is Your Love (A-Beat C)
And right after the previous lousy performance we're reminded of how wonderful A-Beat C can also be. The Go Go Girls are here to lift our spirits with a really perky song. The song's verses aren't very catchy but the chorus makes up for them easily. The vocals sound good and the c-melody is really happy and at the same catchy.
Rating : 9-

11.Derreck Simons - 24 Hours Love Affair (A-Beat C)
Derreck Simons has done this before, I mean the rather strange intro that sounds unlike any other eurobeat intro out there. And generally when intros work in eurobeat songs the rest of the song turns out crappy, fortunately this is not the case. Derreck Simons' vocals work very well and the song is definitely one of his best ones.
Rating : 9-

12.Gipsy & Queen - Made In Italy (Time)
This song reminds me of good old europop because it features many typical sounds that some bands also used. This track is the most unique one from this album with excellent backgrounds and the chorus kicks ass big time. Dancing to the beat made in Italy, oh yeah baby. Awesome, awesome song.
Rating : 9+

13.Dave Simon - I'm In Love With You (Time)
The album ends up with the performance that also manages to sound very much like a song taken from an Initial D-album. The song has that something that makes me see Initial D everywhere in this track. A good song over all, but doesn't manage to impress that well after the previous hit.
Rating : 8+

Final Words :
Maharaja Nights have been strong compilations thorough their history and this album continues the high level. The album has some mediocore songs along, but it also features some killer songs by King & Queen, Lolita & Gipsy & Queen. Definitely a great album for eurobeat fan. I'd specially recommend to check out the song Made In Italy that is really catchy.

Final Score :  8+
