Reviews: Back to Index

The albums have been graded on the most common grading system used in Finnish schools. Where 4 is the worst, and 10 is the best. The final score for the album is most of the times the average for all of the tracks, though it can also change if the reviewer wishes so. The Super Eurobeat Non-Stop albums will be reviewed as full collections, and the individual songs won't be reviewed, unless they are completely new. Though Euromach and JGTC albums for example will have complete song by song reviews.
The grading system simply goes as ie. 4- (3,75), 4 (4), 4+ (4,25) and 4½ (4,5) and the next one again would be 5-. A simple system we have over here in Finland.
  Super Eurobeat 147

1.Virginelle - I Just Wanna Be Your Angel (A-Beat C)
Yeah, finally Virginelle is back and with a kick-ass song. Elena Gobbi has given us so many hitsongs during her career that I sometimes get the feeling that it has to end sometime, fortunately this isn't that time. The basic Virginelle hooks are present to the maximum, and the chorus in the song works perfectly. This song is pretty much your basic eurobeat, but it still works like a dream, go and figure why some songs just do this and others don't.
Rating : 10-

2.Dark Angels - Right Now (Euro Power Mix) (Delta)
A quite surprising track to appear on a SEB, a very heavy song and heavymetal-music elements are all present. The low grumbling/shouting vocals, heavy electric guitars, synthethizers and the beat make this track sound quite odd at first, but after a few replays it starts to sound good, and Evanescence might be a rather good name to compare the track to (well this has a completely different beat, but still there are similarities). A good song none the less, an excellent way to make the song stick out from the crowd, experiements like this are always appreciated.

3.David Ropa - Stormy Night (SCP)
And then we're back in the land of normal eurobeat, this track presents us with one heck of an energetic song. The melody is very fast and the vocals back it up perfectly. The chorus is not perhaps as catchy as it could be, but it works very well as it is. The c-melody is simply brilliant and the track could've used it more to add a bit more edge to it, still a good general eurobeat song.

4.Pretty Woman - Cybersexy Girl (Delta)
The previous Pretty Woman songs haven't really been that catchy, but this song works quite well. The song has pretty much copied a clip from the classic Taylor Dayne song Tell It To My Heart. At first I thought this track would be a cover, but then it just turned out to sound very similar. A good song overall with some brilliant moments in the backgrounds.
Rating : 9+

5.Time Force - Time Of Love
(Time)
The first rather mediocore song presents itself on the album, and I am not really that surprised that it's Time who does it. This track is rather midtempo and it sounds a lot like normal european pop, the melody isn't very fast and the beat doesn't have that general beat we've gotten used to. Not a really bad song, but it seriously didn't move me either way.
Rating : 6+

6.Meri - Never Let Me Down
(A-Beat C)
A new name by A-Beat C, and the new titles can always be refreshing. Who knows we might get another Nuage, and this song really starts Meri's career marvellously. I would easily compare Meri to Nuage in many senses as this track is also rather midtempo like most of the Nuage songs and there's just a similar mood to these tracks. A great song that takes a while to get used to, so now we'll just wait for a duet with Dave and Meri...

7.Eletric Rock Band - Rock Me Tonight (Vibration)
It's decent that Vibration gets their share of the albums on a quite regular basis. Another new title which brightens up the mood, specially as they've got a really great song. The melody goes up and down and when the vocals aren't present you can really experience the magnificence that is eurobeat. An incredibly catchy chorus that left me wanting for more, also awesome vocals. A brilliant song.
Rating : 9+

8.Nick Key - S.O.S. (A-Beat C)
Why add a C to the name, when it seemed much cooler the way it used to be? Well the artist's name doesn't have a lot to do with the music fortunately as we hear on this track. The previous Nik Key songs have been rather good, even if they haven't been the best tracks around, this song is also good, but not a really memorable song in the long run, but I'll gladly listen to this some more.

9.Priscilla - Bye To Be Baby (Delta)
Yay, Priscilla is here with another upbeat happy song that will surely make you feel good. This track features some ancient sounding sounds in the backgrounds that at first give the song a really old feel, but after a few replays they start to sound really unique which is always good in this genre. The vocals are good as usually and the chorus creates a really catchy web that lures you in.
Rating : 9-

10.Dave Rodgers - Not Gonna Get Us (A-Beat C)
Seriously, this does it. I was just about to say that I kinda like Dave Rodgers, then he does it again, another cover that really spoils everything up. His vocals go up and down and at some points he sounds like a girl, which is really irritating. The original t.A.T.u. song was plain brilliant but this cover is plain horrible. The catchiness of the original song is no where to be found and only the chorus sounds decent, I really do hope he stops doing covers as they seem to be the worst tracks he releases.
Rating : 5

11.Dany - Love Is A Lite (Time)
Another new title, but this time I was prepared as we're talking about Time and their productions haven't lately been very impressive. Well my prejudices were right this time, as this song is quite mediocore and even if the vocalist is quite good it can't help at all, when the song doesn't have much edge to it. The c-melody manages to shine the only lite into this song but that's not enough to make it good.
Rating : 6+

12.Mako - In The Stars (Delta)
Ah fortunately the album picks up with an energetic song by Mako, who hasn't been around in a while. The basic eurobeat elements are present and they've been done with class as they work well, but the song itself isn't anything phenomenal, so it just manages to rise to 'Good'-level.

13.Mad Cow And The Bazookistaners - Rasputin, Pasternak And Molotov (HI-NRG Attack)
And of course we get the mandatory dose of HI-NRG Attack, and that's always good. The song is really familiar HI-NRG Attack material as there are various familiar sounds here and there in the backgrounds, it's fun for a while to spot the sounds and then combine them with another song they've been used in. The song ain't really fast and it's not as catchy as the previous Mad Cow song, but the chorus in the track is absolutely marvellous, the c-melody gives the song a lot of edge with cool chimes, and in the end the track is really good, perhaps not a classic but it'll surely appear on SEB150.
Rating : 9

14.Lolita - Heart Attack (A-Beat C)
Then we reach the song that really managed to shock my heart back on SEB143. The nonstop version was already enough to convince me, but this full version is even better. The song has an awesome melody, that is backed up perfectly by Lolita's vocals. It's been quite awesome to follow her songs in the past 10 SEBs or so, as they've all been plain awesome and she's always presented the best tracks on the albums where she's been featured on. Again a real treasure for eurobeat fans.
Rating : 10

15.Mr. M - All That I Want (Time)
Time has had quite crappy songs on the album so far, and I gotta give it to them as they're managed to get 3 crappy songs to this SEB and I really am not too convinced by the label at the moment. This song sounds way too common and there's really nothing in it that would've kept me coming back for more, the vocals are decent, the sounds don't offer any highlights and the chorus goes by without you even noticing it's existance, bad, very bad.

16.Karen - Finally I See The Light (A-Beat C)
A very calm intro that could very well be taken from some old 80's classic song, fortunately the intro doesn't reflect the whole song. The song speeds up a bit as the song starts and it gains some edge due to the calm vocals that suit the song well. The backgrounds have some trance-elements here and there that give the song a nice spice, and when the chorus works really well you just have to sing along to it. A good song, not the best one on the album but left me feeling good.
Rating : 8+

17.Jean Love - Steel Blade (Delta)
The previous Jean Love song was quite tedious, so I didn't have my hopes up. This time a quite cool intro aroused my interest and happily the song turned out as quite awesome. The vocals though sound like a transvestite was singing them and I had to check the previous song from Jean Love to see if it was a man or a woman singing in it. The backgrounds are quite silent and only blast into action in the c-melody when the vocals aren't present, a classic sollution for eurobeat but it works well now.

18.Go 2 - Not For Sale (SCP)
Fastway and Ace together form a quite striking duo, and this song has a cool tone to it. The track relies on the great vocals that give enough room for both of the men so neither of them steals the show. The chorus is incredibly catchy and the electric guitar in the background fits the song just perfectly. An awesome ending for the album.
Rating : 10

Final Words :
Well I had my hopes up for this album as the tracklisting really seemed promising and I was partly satisfied with the results but a huge portion of the album left me feeling quite unhappy. There are a couple of plain brilliant songs like Virginelle, Lolita & Go 2 but there are also very many bad tracks and Time has really presented us with way too many tedious songs in the past, it's about time they replace Time with BBB. This album is slightly better than the previous super eurobeat but it's still not on the level of the many albums back in the 130's.

Final Score : 8+
